Express Rail Link Crossing

The project involved the construction of a dedicated new railway line from KL Sentral to KLIA, and required over 40 bridges. The bridges vary from simple footbridges to cut-and-cover box bridges and viaducts.

The longer viaducts were designed using twin precast post-tensioned T-beams for maximum economy in materials. The longest of these was 2.3km long. Close to the Kuala Lumpur end, a 200m long crossing was built over the Federal Highway; the busiest highway in Malaysia. This bridge consisted of a 4-span precast segmental box girder bridge with two main spans of 60m and a combination of internal and external post-tensioning.

Construction for the overall project started in 1997 and was completed in 2001.

RB as the lead consultant in association with the other Benaim Group companies, procured the detailed design of all the bridge types.
