Sg. Dinding Bridge

Location: Malaysia
Client: HMS Perunding Sdn Bhd
Owner: Department of Public Works Malaysia
Value: RM300M (US$85M)

For this design and build contract RB was Benaim Group’s local representative responsible for the project management and coordination of the detailed design, construction technology services, and temporary stage designs for the contractor on this 1.2km long main bridge carrying a new road over the Sungai Dinding Estuary.

The Bridge consists of reinforced concrete arches with spans ranging from 45m to 90m supporting a steel beam and concrete slab composite deck. The arches were built in situ using the balanced cantilever method employing temporary steel towers and cable-stays. The construction technology and temporary works were also covered as part of the comprehensive scope of services.

Two other bridges were also designed over Sungai Sitiawan and Sungai Tebok Raja Samalon with a combined length of 900m. These are prestressed concrete box girders with 45m spans built by incremental launching – the first to be built by this method in Malaysia. The design was completely integrated with the construction process to ensure ease of construction. Construction started 1997 and was completed in 2000.
